Colin Chapman was the charismatic and brilliant designer behind Lotus cars, and since the early sixties they have been a force in Formula 1.
After making a succession of small wooden toys and models for our sons when they were young, this one was made as a gift for an adult to celebrate a significant birthday.
Apart from the exhaust pipes and the steering wheel, which were made from pieces of plastic tubing, this model was made entirely from wood: carved, fashioned, turned on the lathe in the case of the wheels and sanded to achieve a finish that reflects the high-tech world of motor racing. The model was painted with enamel and the decals were created digitally.
