Scaled Down

This development proposal for the South Canterbury town of Methven comprises three buildings which will occupy an under-used space in the town centre. Planned as retail outlets and living appartments, the proposed development echoes the styles of the original buildings on the site; none more so than that on the corner of the block which was originally home to a chemist shop in the early nineteen hundreds and later a general store.

A  primary concern of Auckland architect Stuart Scott appears to have been to design a group of three buildings, each with its own personality, which not only provide a functional combination of living and working spaces, but also one whose character acknowledges Methven's architectural history whilst fitting comfortably into the existing urban design of the town.
