Scaled Down

This villa in Linwood which dates back to the 1870s is typical of many of the houses built around that time in Christchurch and it sustained significant earthquake damage over the past twelve months which is now being repaired.

The original part of the Wyon Street homestead is about 140 years old and over time it has undergone some significant changes, additions and alterations to enable its current owners to enjoy more space and comfort. All the improvements have been carried out with loving care; sympathetic to the villa style in which this house was built.

Since the gradual process of renovation has extended the house, 28 Wyon Street has become a particularly long building with two interesting and varied side elevations which require a walk around the property to fully appreciate.

Attractive features of the house are its period leadlights, the projecting oriel windows supported by brackets, its symmetrical facade and its return verandah with exposed structural details, that wraps around one of the back corners of the house providing a welcoming place to sit and enjoy the afternoon sun.
